After closing it down for several months for a stem-to-stern renovation, RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced the reopening of Riu Tequila in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

The renovations included the refurbishment of the resort’s 630 guest rooms, including new floors throughout, the installation of shower stalls, and modernized décor. The outdoor area was also updated, turning the two large freeform pools that were previously there into five rectangular-shaped pools – or albercas as they are called in Mexico – including one with slides for kids, and another featuring a swim-up bar.

The resort also now has a new Italian restaurant, ‘Rinascita,’ and a new steakhouse called ‘Black Cow.’ Both are in addition to the main buffet, the Asian-themed restaurant and the Beach Club restaurant that at night becomes a Mexican-themed option.

The lobby bar, cocktail lounge, sports bar and the swim-up bar in the garden area of the resort, have also been completely updated. Next to the new kids’ pool, there is a RiuLand club and a playground, as well as a new gym and ‘Riu Fit’ zone.

New amenities include free WiFi service now available throughout the resort, and updated entertainment offerings.
