The August long weekend saw both WestJet and Air Canada set new company records for most pax flown in a single day. On 3AUG, Air Canada carried more than 178,000 customers on board its aircraft, while on 7AUG, The WestJet Group flew an estimated 80,219 guests, topping the previous record of 79,961 recorded on 22DEC, 2017.
"The WestJet Group continues to grow our guest numbers as our strategic plan is executed,” jsaid WestJet President and CEO Ed Sims. “We continue to expand our connectivity while providing more choice for Canadian travellers.”
Meanwhile, Benjamin Smith, AC’s President, Airlines and COO said: "We are delighted customers are choosing Air Canada in record numbers for their travel plans, where we carried more than 5.2 million customers in a record setting July.
"To put this accomplishment into context,” Smith said, “it is equivalent to transporting more people living in the entire city of Saguenay, QC, or in the area of Abbotsford-Mission, BC or in the whole province of Prince Edward Island -- all in one day.”
