Air Canada has successfully closed its purchase of the Aeroplan loyalty program from Aimia Canada Inc.
The airline is aiming to calm fears of Aeroplan members by reassuring that their current Aeroplan Miles will be accepted on a one-to-one basis in Air Canada's new loyalty program, set to launch in 2020.
Other details of how Air Canada will be handling Aeroplan include:
Altitude Status and privileges remain unchanged for customers
Credit card loyalty program and network agreements finalized with TD, CIBC and Visa Canada for future participation in Air Canada's loyalty program
Agreement in principle entered into with American Express for its continued participation in Air Canada's loyalty program post-2020
Air Canada says it has consulted with more than 30,000 customers to gain insight and input on creating the new loyalty program, in which customers expressed a strong preference to be able to continue earning and redeeming Aeroplan Miles.
The new loyalty program will also include access to travel on over 40 partner airlines, including the Star Alliance global network.
