Sometime around 10:00pm Monday night, Police at Rock Sound in the Bahamas received a report of a fire at Princess Cays, the 40-acre private resort located on the southern end of Eleuthera. The resort is owned by Princess Cruises, which uses it as a Bahamas and Caribbean port call.
South Eleuthera Emergency Partners was dispatched along with police officers. On arrival they found four wooden structures fully ablaze. They buildings were the generator house, reverse osmosis water plant, mechanic shop and a tool shed on property. All four structures were totally destroyed.
The fire was contained within several hours to the mid-section of the Cay and the cause of the blaze is unknown to authorities.
Carnival Cruise Line also uses Princess Cays when Half Moon Cay is busy with Holland America ships. Carnival Corp. owns all three cruise lines.
A planned call by Carnival Pridetoday has been cancelled. Instead, the ship will stop at Half Moon Cay. Future Princess and Carnival calls are still being assessed.
