Contiki, the travel company specializing in tours for 18 to 35-year olds, has released the top seven destinations where young Canadians will be heading off to this summer.

Here's what the tour operator had to say about the Top 7, along with links to popular Contiki itineraries.

  1. Greek Islands
  2. The Greek Islands topped the list as the place where young Canadians will be travelling to this summer, especially the trifecta of Mykonos, Santorini and Ios. It's a chance to explore the region’s mythical tales, stunning streets, pristine waters and sun-bleached ruins.

  3. Africa
  4. Considered to be one of the "last frontiers" in travel, Africa is a fascinating destination for explorers looking for an unfiltered adventure. There's a chance of spotting the Big Five game, meeting gorillas in Uganda, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and ‘glamping’ under Tanzania's Serengeti.

  5. Ireland
  6. From rolling green hills to its Game of Thrones-esque castles, Ireland has picturesque landscapes, lively street festivals, whiskey & Guiness, incredible food (beyond potatoes!) and surfing the Wild Atlantic Way.

  7. Italian Espresso
  8. With its food, architecture, art and stunning scenery, it’s no wonder why Italy is so inviting. With the art-filled cities of Rome, Venice and Florence, the wine region of Tuscany and the stylish sophistication of Cinque Terre, Milan and Lake Como, Italy has an abundance to offer.

  9. Thai Island Hopping
  10. Friendly, inviting and beautiful, Thailand is a constant favourite among young Canadians and it’s no wonder why. Travellers can visit the renowned Railay Beach, hunt for souvenirs at the Chiang Mai night bazaar, hit the Bangkok bars or get spiritual at Wat Arun.

  11. Spanish Spree
  12. Featuring inspiring architecture, mouth-watering food, breath-taking beaches and countrysides, Spain is a melting pot of sights, tastes and experiences, from discovering culture in Barcelona, food in Seville or the beaches at La Concha beach in San Sebastián.

  13. Peru Panorama
  14. There are more reasons to visit Peru than just llamas -- this diverse South American nation has an abundance of cultural and culinary delights, like the Chachapoyan site of Kuelap, Incan gastronomy in Cusco or the Inca trail at Machu Picchu.
