Three Canadian Airports Among World’s Top 50 Megahubs
Bruce Parkinson, Open Jaw
The OAG Megahubs Index 2019 reveals the 50 most internationally connected airports in the world – and three of them are in Canada.
The index is generated by comparing the number of scheduled connections to and from international flights with the number of destinations served from the airport.
The top 50 International Megahubs are those airports with the highest ratio of possible scheduled international connections to the number of destinations served by the airport. Online and interline connections are included.
The top five are LHR – where BA operates 51% of flights; FRA where LH is the dominant carrier with 63% of flights; ORD, where UA operates 46% of flights; AMS, with KL dominating with 52% of flights; and MUC, with LH having a 59% share of flights.
Coming in at #6 is YYZ, where Air Canada is the leading player with 59% of flights. YVR is #27, with AC at 46% of flights and YUL ranks #41, again with AC the top airline with 58% of flights.
