South Africa Names Properties That Exceed 5-Star Grading

South Africa has introduced a new 5-Star Premium grading status as part of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa’s (TGCSA) enhanced grading standards implemented earlier this year. This new grading status is for properties in the country that exceed the quality standards and requirements of the 5-Star grading, exhibiting the pinnacle of world-class service and quality.
TGCSA, a business unit of South African Tourism, recently awarded the rating to three new establishments that it says “epitomize the essence of luxury in both product quality and service standards.” The latest recipients are: Mpumalanga’s Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Cape Town’s The Silo Hoteland Hermanus’ Birkenhead House. They will all receive 5-Star Premium Status certificates to proudly showcase to guests and travel partners. To date, there are 13 properties in South Africa that have earned the prestigious 5-Star Premium Status. The full list includes:

The introduction of the new Grading Level above the 5-star level dubbed 5-Star Premium, was in response to a widespread comparative study completed as part of the Grading System review process. A number of similar global quality assurance bodies have made the move to recognize and differentiate those products which exhibit a unique level of product quality, extensive guest amenities and world class luxury service standards.
