With its UNESCO-listed capital city, diverse properties and easy driveability, there really is no destination like Curaçao in the Caribbean.

Paired with easy direct flights with Air Canada Vacations, the Dutch Caribbean island has been a hit with the Quebec market, says Jean-Luc Tremblay, the ACV Area Sales Manager covering Quebec City, Saguenay Lac-St-Jean, Mauricie & Estrie.

In 2018, the operator expanded its network to CUR with a second weekly flight from YUL. Riding on its success, the twice-weekly frequency is continuing this winter season, with flights departing Tuesdays and Fridays from 17DEC to 10APR out of YUL.

Between its diverse beaches, cultural activities and adventurous excursions, the island begs its guests to leave their hotels and explore its expanse, and that's a major appeal for inquisitive Quebecers who want to go beyond the resort, says Tremblay.

"This is my first time in Curaçao and I discovered that this destination is all about going beyond the all-inclusive," Tremblay told Open Jaw on a recent megafam to the destination.

"Tourists can easily rent a car here. It's very secure. It's ideal for clients who are young, who want to discover something new, who like to stroll. There are lots of excursions to do – swimming with turtles, snorkeling, boat tours, opportunities for diving."

He suggested that agents can even advise their clients to stay at two different hotels to see the varied offerings of Curaçao, from its historic downtown to the off-the-beaten path beaches in the west of the island.

Much like its medley of activities, Curaçao’s accommodations offer their own distinct flavour.

"There's so much variety with the hotel offering, it's incredible. It's not just one all-inclusive after another," said Tremblay.

Agents on the megafam got to see properties such as the Santa Barbara Beach And Golf Resort -- featuring an 18-hole golf course – the Kunuku Aqua Resort with five water slides (one as high and the Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino, featuring a spectacular infinity pool overlooking the ocean.

As one of the few all-inclusives in the destination, AMResorts' Sunscape Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino is the most popular property for the Quebec market, according to Tremblay.

"The Quebec market loves the all-inclusive option," he said. "It's our bestseller. This is a good option for someone who is less inclined to adventure on their own or do some discovery. They would appreciate being in the all-inclusive."

And yet, even at this all-inclusive property, Tremblay points out that guests who want to do some exploring can still do so with the resort's twice daily shuttle service to Willemstad.

The brand new Dreams Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino property that opened 15DEC, 2019 is another resort that will likely play favourably in the Quebec market, due to its all-inclusive offer, according to Tremblay. It features seven restaurants, a striking 18th century fort designated for weddings and events, and is also the first and only five-star all-inclusive property in Curaçao.

"An advantage of the Dreams property is that it's very close to Willemstad, so it's very easy to get to the classic quarter of the UNESCO downtown area, which is only 20 minutes away," said Tremblay. "Dreams is a very well-known brand in Quebec, like Sunscape. When you talk to people about it, they light up."

It will welcome its first ACV guests on 1FEB, 2020.

Several ACV partner properties aren't featured in the Sun brochure, but are available to view online. Tremblay counselled agents to contact their ACV Area Sales Manager for more detailed information on the destination.

Air Canada Vacations offers various connector flights to YUL from Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles, Bagotville, Mont-Joli, Îles-de-la-Madeleine and other Quebec gateways.

In addition to flying direct from YUL, the Quebec market can also connect in YYZ, which operates year round and in the peak season, will fly four times weekly to CUR from 27OCT to 26APR.
