Air Canada has announced the suspension of flights between Canada and Italy as of today (10MAR).

Yesterday, Italy’s leaders announced that the entire country will go into lock-down in a drastic effort to contain Europe’s worst outbreak of coronavirus.

According to CTVNews, the flights are suspended until 01MAY. AC’s Italian destinations include Rome, Venice, Florence and Milan.

The airline's last flight to FCO is scheduled to take off from YYZ today (10MAR), with the final return flight departing FCO for YUL tomorrow (11MAR).

“We will continue to monitor this situation and evaluate conditions prior to resuming service,” said spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick.

He added that affected customers will be notified and offered travel options, including a full refund.

The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for Italy, urging Canadians to avoid non-essential travel to the country.

Italy has reported more than 10,000 people infections and 631 deaths from COVID-19.
