Several Canadian airports, both big and small, were recognized at this year's World Airport Awards by Skytrax. Singapore's Changi Airport has been crowned the "World's Best Airport" for the eighth year in a row.

Here's a look at the Canadian title holders:

YUL: Best Airport Staff in North America

For the first time, YUL won top honours in the "Best Airport Staff Service" in North America, a category that "recognizes the quality of service offered to passengers by the 13,000 employees who normally work in the terminal building", says YUL in a press release. They include "ambassadors", baggage handlers, air carrier personnel, members of the Airport Patrol, government agency employees, and concession and store employees.

"Over the past few years, we launched new initiatives to make the passenger experience at YUL more memorable and enjoyable from the moment they arrive at YUL. This award confirms that our efforts have paid off," said Philippe Rainville, President and CEO of ADM Aéroports de Montréal.

"Without the dedication of the airport community's employees, we would never have been able to achieve this. Although priorities have changed in recent weeks, employees are continuing to come to work with smiles on their faces, despite a difficult and uncertain environment. I am extremely proud of them and I know that they will be ready when the time comes to resume normal operations in the terminal building and make YUL a vibrant airport that fully reflects its metropolis."

In the ranking of the top 100 airports internationally, YUL ranked 57th, up five places from last year.

In the overall category of "Best Airports" in North America, YUL remained in 10th place.

YVR: Best Airport In North America

YVR ranked first in the "Best Airport" category for North America, or 13th in the overall list (up from 19th in 2019).

YYZ: Best Airport, 50-60 Million Pax

YYZ ranked 6th best airport for North America or 42nd overall (up from 50th spot in 2019).

Best Airports Up To 5 Million Pax: Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport placed 7th, with Halifax Stanfield International Airport ranking 8th place in the overall category. Fairmont Vancouver Airport was named Best Airport Hotel in North America.

Skytrax's World Airport Awards are awarded following a customer service and facilities evaluation process conducted at more than 550 airports and among millions of travellers around the world. This year's ranking was the result of a survey conducted from SEP 2019 to FEB 2020.
