Iberostar Hotels & Resorts have released enhanced hygiene, health and safety measures through its new How We Care program as the company prepares to reopen properties and welcome back guests.

Iberostar's Canadian sales team hosted a webinar for travel advisors on 02JUN to explain how the brand hopes to protect staff and make guests feel safe and comfortable while vacationing at its properties.

Tabatha Bradley, BDM for Ontario, highlighted that Iberostar has partnered with health experts to inform their measures -- including an infectious disease and a pulmonary specialist – that sit on Iberostar's own Medical Board.

"We know that the situation is always evolving so we've partnered with multiple stakeholders in the health and hospitality industries to ensure we are bringing you that Iberostar elevated luxury," she said.

In addition to receiving direction from this new Medical Board, Iberostar also follows guidelines from the World Health Organization, the U.S. CDC and local authorities, added Bradley.

"That's four layers of security for your clients and our guests, and our staff as well," Bradley said.

In addition, Bradley highlighted that Iberostar properties have been certified since 2018 with Cristal International Standards, an organization specializing in risk management and quality control, and Earth Check, a global scientific benchmarking certification and advisory group for travel and tourism.

"It's not that we are telling you to take our word for it; it's that we went to the best and brightest and got their approval," Bradley said.

Here are some notable highlights from the How We Care program. Click   here   for the detailed initiative.

Public Spaces

  • Resort capacity will be capped at 70% to better ensure social distancing.
  • Non-toxic, biodegradable cleaners that kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria will be used.
  • Hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the property.

Food & Beverage

  • Self-serve buffets will be replaced with portioned meals served by staff. "You are more than welcome to take more than one, but we will be helping you," Bradley noted. "First, I think this is really elegant and second, it ensures safety and comfort."
  • Dining areas will be reorganized to ensure 6 feet between all tables and surfaces.

Rooms

  • All rooms will undergo a pre-arrival deep clean, which includes using an electrostatic sprayer, 24 hours before guests arrive. This means rooms will only be occupied 24 hours post cleaning processes.
  • All rooms will offer sanitized water bottles that can be refilled in nano-filtered and purified water stations throughout the property.

Guest Services

  • All bags will be disinfected upon arrival.
  • Guests are encouraged to check-in/out via the Iberostar app.

Beach & Pool

  • All pools will be deep cleaned weekly using certified biodegradable cleaning products.
  • Seating areas will be reorganized to aid social distancing.
  • Pools will be limited to a 70% capacity for guests. This, and social distancing between swimmers, will be enforced by a lifeguard.

Entertainment & Golf

  • Guests will be encouraged to reserve their spot for special activities.
  • Only one golfer will be allowed per golf cart.

Kids Club

  • Dr. Superhero is a new character at the Star Camp who will teach young guests how they can maintain social distancing while having fun outdoors.
