ICs Could Be Left Without Financial Aid Come Fall, Says ACTA

Independent travel agents could be left without financial aidwhen Canada's Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) expires this fall, says ACTA.
All indications are that the CERB subsidy will switch to the Employment Insurance (EI) program, according to ACTA. This raises concerns that independent advisors not currently eligible for EI benefits could be left without financial aid.
With legislation on changes to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program being passed in the House of Commons 21JUL, 2020 – with approval by Senate and Royal Ascent pending -- details on the alignment between CERB and/or EI and CEWS is still to be confirmed.
“As the federal government makes changes to the EI program this summer, we implore the government to include self-employed workers in an EI type program, similar to the United States CARES Act,” said Wendy Paradis, President, ACTA.
A large segment of the 24,000 businesses and individuals selling travel are women and small businesses, according to ACTA, and over 30% of travel agents are independent contractors who will continue to require financial aid, given that travel advisories remain in place and many borders are closed.
ACTA has launched a new letter writing and phone call campaign urging the government to provide continued financial aid for Canada’s independent travel agents due to the COVID-19 crisis. Industry members can download a template from theACTA websiteto send to their MP. There is also a phone script for phone calls to MPs.

I am so angry with the Opposition Party badgering on about WE when the country is still in a crisis!! Yes, of course it needs to be dealt with, but it can wait until Covid calms down. The focus right now should be making sure that the Travel Industry is protected by our government and not left out to dry so that the Conservatives can try to get votes. They've definitely lost mine with their selfish actions.
