Cuba has announced it is once again ready to greet Canadian sun-seekers, which is welcome news to advisors with a loyal Cuba clientele.
With the island open for travel, Canadian operators are gradually resuming operations to the mainstay sun destination.
However, it should be noted that at this time, tourism in Cuba is restricted to the cays – CCC, SNU, CYO -- which reopened on 01JUL.
These popular cays, including Cayo Coco, Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Cruz, Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Las Brujas, Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Largo are off the coast of mainland Cuba and have no residential development. According to the tourist board, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 on these cays.
Here's the latest on airlift, according to the Cuba Tourist Board:
Air Canada Vacationsis resuming flights from YYZ and YUL to Cayo Coco in SEP;
Transatis resuming flights from YYZ and YUL to Cayo Santa Maria, as well as YUL to Cayo Largo in OCT;
Hola Sunhas partnered with new Quebec-based airlineOWGto operate flights from YYZ and YUL to Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Varadero and Holguin starting NOV;
SunwingandWestJethave planned restarts for NOV.
Although no pre-test is required before flying, upon arrival at the airport in Cuba, visitors undergo a temperature check and a free COVID test, for which the results are received within 24 hours. Masks are mandatory in the airport and the transfer vehicle. Once at the resort, guests can remove their mask but are obligated to maintain physical distancing.
Tourists who test positive are quarantined at a designated clinic in their resort, and a medical team monitors the health of clients and workers.
The Government of Cuba, in collaboration with the country's ministries of tourism and public health, has developed a health and safety certification program for companies operating in the tourism sector.
