Canada Extends Int'l Travel Ban To 30SEP

Anna Kroupina, Open Jaw

Canada has extended a measure barring foreign travellers from entering the country through 30SEP, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced on Twitter today. The move is in response to continued efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents returning to Canada will continue to be subject to strict quarantine measures, he added.

The extension applies to foreign travellers entering Canada from outside the United States. Canada has a separate agreement for border crossings with the United States, which is in place until 21SEP.

I understand flattening the curve, but covid is here to stay. If we travel, why not implement strict measures for Canadians returning to Canada. Covid test upon arrival home, submit results to Healthy Canada, re-test in 4 days and self monitor. If this isn't followed, lose your passport for a year, and a hefty fine. Everyone would like to stay healthy - this is real. For the travel industry it is devestating, there must be some way to take precautions and follow the guidelines regardless of where you are in the world.

This is getting ridiculous! I live in Ontario, I'm not even allowed to travel to another province without being quarantined after I return, if you travel to Maritime provinces or other province for that matter, some requires to be quarantined there - that makes 28 days of quarantine!!! Really?? Is that necessary? Why not being tested when you return, quarantine until you get the results, negative results, great! go about your business, if you develop symptoms do the smart thing and get tested again... The government is killing the travel industry, going into debt and recession is soon showing its ugly head. Meanwhile, you see licence plates from Quebec all over Ontario, visiting and vacationing in resorts and trailer parks? Who controls these? My clients don't have the luxury of 21 vacation days to spend 14 in quarantine so they will not travel. No travel, no commission - really sad:( I understand not to be allowed to go in a country where pandemic is out of control, but total ban???

There must be a way to have some exemptions for countries like Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada etc. These countries have the virus under control or have absolutely no cases. With all of the precautions the airlines, the transfer companies and the hotels are taking, we should be exempt from having to quarantine for 14 days after a 7 day vacation. I am a home based travel agent and as it sits now, I will not have a commission cheque until June 30, 2021!!
