Canada’s 2 largest airlines have welcomed the appointment of Marc Garneau as Minister of Transport.

"Minister Garneau has had an illustrious career as a pilot, engineer, astronaut, naval officer, head of the Canadian Space Agency and politician and we applaud the Trudeau government's appointment,” said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet President & CEO. “His extensive aviation background lends itself to our industry and we look forward to working with him and his office on the many important challenges and opportunities that face our industry," Saretsky added.

"I am delighted to see the appointment of Marc Garneau as our Minister of Transport, given his background and enormous credibility," said Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada President & CEO. "Aviation is a primary economic driver for our country and we look forward to working with Minister Garneau and the Trudeau government to continue to increase the competitiveness of Canadian aviation and build on its reputation for providing safe, reliable service within Canada and across the globe."

Meanwhile, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada was pleased to note that Prime Minster Trudeau “demonstrated the importance of tourism by elevating our representative from a junior ministry to a full Member of Cabinet.”

Bardish Chaggar was given the post of Minister of Small Business and Tourism, and TIAC says it will be looking to her to “further advance a renewed Federal Tourism Strategy focused on improving Canada's international competitiveness as a global destination.”
