A travel agent’s role goes far beyond helping customers plan and book their trips. What sets real live agents apart from online facsimiles is their frequent role in helping travellers who run into problems on their journeys.

A letter to the editor of Kamloops This Week is a perfect illustration of the many occasions when agents go beyond expectations in assisting clients. The letter is signed by Jim, Judy and Alexis Derosier of Calgary.

“We would like to send kudos to Michelle Blackmore, travel agent with Travelwise in Kamloops. Our daughter, Alexis, suffered a grievous leg injury while trekking in Cambodia.

Blackmore worked tirelessly to book us to Phnom Penh during a busy southeast Asian holiday, reserve a decent hotel 4 blocks from the hospital, be the go-between for necessary medical transit forms for Korean Airlines and Air Canada and finally get the 3 of us home to Calgary on Oct. 22.

During this stressful scenario, Blackmore was in constant contact with us, giving advice and compassion, sending e-mails and trying to save dollars. We can’t possibly express enough gratitude to her.

We were so fortunate to have Blackmore as our agent as she undoubtedly contributed to saving our daughter’s leg.

Kamloops is so fortunate to have a dedicated travel agent like Blackmore. We will certainly use her services for any future bookings.”
