Star Alliance partners Air Canada and Avianca Brasil have entered the 1st stage of a codeshare agreement.

Initially, AC will sell tickets for O6 under the AC code, through all its channels. The airline says this will significantly expand its distribution in the local Brazilian market.

The agreement includes flights to and from Brasília, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Salvador and São Paulo (GRU).

Codeshare flights are for sale effective today for travel beginning 09MAY.

"Air Canada operates the only service between Canada and Brazil with non-stop flights from our Toronto global hub daily to Sao Paulo and 3 times weekly to Rio de Janeiro,” said Benjamin Smith, AC’s President, Passenger Airlines. “We are pleased to enhance these services by offering our customers convenient codeshare connections to other Brazilian cities with our Star Alliance partner Avianca Brasil."

Customers who are members of O6’s Amigo or AC’s Aeroplan programs can already earn points/miles on Star Alliance partner flights. In addition, members of Gold and Diamond categories are entitled to preferential check-in, extra baggage allowance, priority boarding and access to VIP lounges.
