Look Out Hotels: Airbnb Makes Deals With 3 Big TMCs

Airbnb is partnering with 3 of the world’s largest travel management companies —American Express Global Business Travel, BCD Travel and Carlson Wagonlit Travel — with the aim of increasing the corporate component of its sales.

Business travellers only make up about 10% of Airbnb's business at present, but the company sees a big opportunity. The company says in a statement that biz travellers are increasingly seeking alternatives to hotels, and companies want to be able to offer employees those choices while managing costs and without compromising security and safety.

A press release from American Express Global Business Travel says the goal of the ‘referral partnership’ is to make Airbnb easily accessible to its users. The program will allow for data transfers between the companies, tracking capabilities and greater variety of choice when it comes to where users stay.

Travel managers will be able to access Airbnb's global inventory and gain better insights into costs and potential savings. Once the program has launched, GBT will refer customers to Airbnb, where they will be able to book their accommodations using a corporate e-mail address. 

On average, business travellers stay 7 nights in Airbnb accommodation, twice as long as average stays in traditional hotels, according to CWT’s research arm CWT Solutions Group. The research also found that companies can save up to 37% in some cases by using Airbnb.

Airbnb for Business gives business travellers access to more than 2 million homes around the world.
