'New Future' And 'New Reality' On The Horizon As YYZ Prepares For Economic Recovery
YYZ will be "forever changed" due to the coronavirus pandemic, says Deborah Flint, president and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). The GTAA laid off 30% of its workforce and reduced its capital spending program by hundreds of millions of dollars to weather the crisis. Even with a COVID-19 vaccine, Flint said it will be several years, possibly into 2024 or 2025 for the airport to fully recover. “We all have to prepare for a new future and a new reality,” she said.
