A delegation from Spain-based hotelier Melia Hotels International (MHI) visited Toronto on 15OCT to discuss the latest news and happenings for the group and its various brands.

Representatives from MHI resorts in Punta Cana, Cozumel, Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta gathered with members of the media to give an overview of their properties, as well as provide an update on various new developments.

Of particular note was the presentation from Angie Diaz, regional sales manager for MHI in the Dominican Republic. “It’s been a very busy year, we are very excited,” said Diaz as she discussed the transformation of the Melia Caribe into two new resorts: the family-friendly Melia Caribe Beach and the adults-only Melia Punta Cana Beach, both set to open in just two months’ time on 15DEC.

Diaz also highlighted the opening of The Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real, also set for 15DEC, which will feature 432 rooms and suites, including swim-up suites, as well as 14 restaurants, multiple kids’ clubs for various ages and stages, a BLAST waterpark, and more. The highest category of hotel for MHI in Punta Cana, it will make up part of The Reserve and Paradisus Palma Real complex, and guests here will have full access to all of the services and amenities therein.

Also new for MHI, the new Paradisus Playa Mujeres is scheduled to open in Spring 2019. The fifth Paradisus-branded property in Mexico, the luxury all-inclusive resort will boast 498 rooms, and will feature the brand’s trademark adults-only Royal Service and Family Concierge. The resort will also feature four pools, six bars and seven restaurants, working with local farmers, artisans and chef to create the menus.

The new resorts are part of MHI’s aggressive expansion plans for 2018 and beyond – having opened a total of 11 properties in the first six months of the year and now on track with plans to open another dozen by the end of 2018.
