Air Canada Thanks The Trade For Their Patience With New PSS System

“We knew this was going to be difficult. We know the last two weeks have not been easy for you. Please bear with us.”

That was the message from Air Canada EVP and Chief Commercial Officer Lucie Guillemette, as she spoke to an audience of key retailers and suppliers at a holiday gathering in Toronto last night.

Guillemette was referring, of course, to problems resulting from AC’s switchover to the Amadeus Altéa Suite Passenger Service System. It’s a massive system change, and some travel advisors and consumers have struggled to make and modify bookings since the cutover.

It’s also a familiar story. Whenever an airline makes such a big change from a legacy system, there are glitches and teething pains, no matter how painstaking the preparation. But Guillemette and Lisa M. Pierce, AC’s recently appointed Managing Director, Canada & USA Sales, say once the initial problems are overcome, the benefits will make it all worthwhile.

“It’s not just a heart transplant. It’s a lung transplant as well,” said Guillemette. “We’re thankful we only have to do things like this every 25 years. But we will come out of this in much better shape.” Pierce added: “It’s such a powerful system. We’ll be able to do great things together.”

Guillemette told the audience at AC’s downtown Toronto offices that the past 10 years have been an amazing journey, as the airline turned around its financial position, expanded massively and modernized its fleet and product.

She says there are more good things to come.
